Day 3 of the 60DWCC - Departing from Our Comfort Zone

715 am - THL left the house slightly late as she planned to walk to the MRT station to get her breakfast there.

7.30 am- RK woke up early so I invited him to go Chinese Garden for a run and he agreed readily not knowing the distance he has to walk/jog.

8.00 am - The sun was already beating down strong as we jog towards Chinese Garden from Jurong West Canal (our starting point). RK was already tired before we even reached Chinese Garden. We slowed down and walked the remaining journey into Chinese Garden.

Being too used to getting driven wherever he goes in the past, the short run to Chinese Garden has obviously taken its toil on RK (he was tailing very far below). Despite that he was very keen to go up the 7th Storey Pagoda inside the garden when I suggested it. We climbed up slowly, allowing him ample rest before climbing up to the top floor.

It was super windy up at the 7th floor and the climb was totally worth it. RK and I enjoyed the cool morning breeze for 30 minutes, while we chit chat about the surrounding landscape and weather changes. After that we went down and we began our long walk towards the MRT station - Lakeside. We bought breakfast from the stall (Mr Bean) that sells over-priced pancakes. We bought 6 of them and a cup of Soya bean drink and walked the remaining journey home.

1.30 pm - We left for West Mall for me to re-contract my handphone. As usual, we walked to the MRT station and then we took a train ride to Bukit Batok station. Upon reaching there, I spent the next 1 hour trading in my old phone and signing up new handphone contact with the local mobile service provider - M1.

After that we had late lunch at Burger king before taking a train back home. While we were waiting for a connecting train back home, RK suddenly commented "Life is so boring without XL!". Upon hearing what he said, I was glad I made the right decision. I guess we have all been too car-pampered and we have not come to appreciate the convenience of using our affordable local public transport that have been serving the rest of the car-less population well. As it was raining heavily when we reach Chinese Garden station, we alighted and took a cab home.

6.15 pm - It was still raining. THL took a bus home from Boon Lay (the place where her company transport drops her). Since THL only has a small little highly fragile brolly with her, I decided to meet her outside one of the supermarket store, carrying with me a more robust umbrella - just in case. We packeted dinner from one of the Malay fried chicken stall before walking back home.

Transport Expenses: $10.19

MRT Fare

LS to BL (THL - to Jurong Point) = $0.73
LS to BB (RK and Myself) = $1.39
BB to CG (RK and Myself) = $1.24

Taxi Fare - $6.00

Bus Ride -> (THK - bus ride home) = $0.83

Daily Afterthoughts

Things would have been different had we not sold the car. I would have driven to Chinese Garden in the morning with RK sitting inside comfortably without breaking a sweat. We would have gone to and return from West Mall in the afternoon without waiting for a taxi and waiting time at the MRT stations. And  finally I would also had fetch THL at her company transport alighting point in the evening without worrying that she might get drenched and her risking the life of her fragile brolly. :D

But...this would have also mean that the 3 of us would never have the chance to get out of our comfort zone and go through the typical experience of the population who does not own a car. Without a car, life still goes on while still allowing us to "savour" the various aspects (both good and bad) of life.
